SEATTLE (AP) -- Singapore Airlines said Wednesday that it ordered 10 Boeing 777-200 aircraft and placed options for $10 more for a total of $4 billion.
The planes will replace Airbus A310-300s and provide room for growth, a statement issued by the airline said.
Airline officials said the 20 jetliners, scheduled for delivery between 2003 and 2009, will be used mainly on regional routes but could be used on longer routes if required.
As with previous orders, the airline expects to finance the purchase largely from cash flow, but if necessary officials said they "will consider borrowing or leasing."
The airline is phasing out A310-300s. The last of its 13 A310s is slated for retirement in 2006.
Singapore Airlines operates 91 aircraft, including Boeing 777-200s and -300s, 747-400s, Airbus A340-300s and A310-300s.
