$205M repairs for Hood Canal Bridge

OLYMPIA -- The Department of Transportation is seeking coverage under the Department of Ecology's NPDES general permit for stormwater discharge associated with construction activities during the planned Hood Canal Bridge renovation.

The $205 million project includes replacing the east half of the 7,869-foot long floating bridge and retrofitting the west half.

If the project proceeds according to plans, the bridge will remain open during construction, except for an eight-week period in 2006 when workers will install the new floating structure on the east side of the bridge.

To comment on the project, contact the DOE in writing by Sept. 20 at P.O. Box 47696, Olympia, WA 98504-7696.
