SEATTLE -- The City Council on Monday approved a low-interest $10 million loan to help fund the $30.5 million Fremont Bridge reconstruction project.
About $20.5 million will be spend on reconstruction of the bridge approaches, $7.5 million for electrical/mechanical upgrades and $3 million for bridge maintenance shop reconstruction. Funds will come from the Public Works Trust Fund loan, federal grant money and gas tax proceeds.
The city said the bridge is in deteriorated condition and does not meet current seismic codes. Parsons Brinckerhoff is the lead engineer. Construction is set to begin in mid-2005 and take 18 months.
