Lake Sammamish Trail work begins

SEATTLE -- King County has started construction on the first leg of the East Lake Sammamish Trail.

This week, the county started building 3.4 miles of interim gravel pedestrian and bicycle trail along the former Burlington Northern Rail corridor in Issaquah and Redmond. Parametrix is the designer and Ohno Construction is the contractor.

Construction cost for the first phase is $488,000, said county project manager Robin Cole. Completion is scheduled for December.

Cole said the county plans to start building the remaining 7.2 miles of the trail next year. The county plans to replace the interim trail with a permanent paved trail.
