SEATTLE -- The first light rail construction downtown will begin on Pine Street next week, Sound Transit CEO Joni Earl announced yesterday.
Qwest will begin saw-cutting 2.5 blocks of Pine Street from Seventh Street to Terry, to move underground cables out of the way for the light rail project.
Also, Earl said Sound Transit's Sounder commuter rail service will change schedule slightly.
On Sounder's Everett to Seattle run, the morning train will depart 15 minutes earlier, giving passengers time to get to downtown Seattle offices by 8 a.m. The Everett run currently pulls in to Seattle's King Street Station at 7:54 a.m. The agency blames the line's low ridership on an inconvenient arrival time and the fact that the train only does one round-trip each day. A second run will be added next year.
