Mercer Island’s $13.1 million Community Center at Mercer View, completed in December, offers residents 43,000 square feet of conference and recreation space.
The building, at 8236 S.E. 24th St., was built on the site of the former Mercer View Elementary School.
The center includes a gym, galleries, a dance and fitness room, senior program room, full commercial kitchen and meeting space for 200 people.
The building is sited to take advantage of Lake Washington views.
The main entrance has a large glass, steel and wood canopy to welcome visitors. Inside, large operable windows allow natural light in each room.
The exterior is covered with brick veneer, colored concrete block and cast-in-place concrete and metal siding.
