BEIJING (AP) — China is likely to start work on a 185 mph high-speed train linking Beijing and Shanghai this year and complete most of it by 2010, a state newspaper reported Thursday, citing the railway minister.
The multibillion-dollar project has been closely watched by European and Asian makers of railway equipment, but Beijing has not said what role they might play in building the 820-mile line.
