Oregon builders may have to help fund schools

PORTLAND (AP) — The details aren't final, but it's looking very likely that after years of fending off such legislation, builders will soon be on the hook to help Oregon schools shoulder the cost of new pupils.

That's a big priority in high-growth districts, where students often attend classes in trailers. Builders, however, have argued it could ultimately boost the cost of new homes and hurt the thriving construction industry.
