Local groups ask Congress for $300M to fix forest roads

  • The roads were used and maintained by timber companies until the mid 1990's, but now there is little money left for repairs.

    A coalition of local agencies, Indian tribes and nonprofits today are asking Congress for $300 million over the next 10 years to fix deteriorating roads in Washington's national forests.

    More than 22,000 miles of federal forest roads are in Washington, for which the federal budget provides about $3 million annually.
