BLM halts oil development in part of Alaska

FAIRBANKS, Alaska (AP) — The Bureau of Land Management has halted planning efforts for oil and gas development in one section of the National Petroleum Reserve-Alaska.

Public opposition and the impracticality of development led to the decision in the Southern Planning Area, BLM officials said.
