BIA extends comment period on $3B Navajo power plant

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (AP) — Federal officials agreed Friday to give the public more time to comment on a draft environmental impact statement for a controversial coal-fired power plant planned for the Navajo Nation.

The Department of Interior made the decision to stretch the comment period on the $3 billion Desert Rock Energy Project by 30 days after criticism erupted the day before when the agency's Bureau of Indian Affairs issued a last call for comments.
