Coos Bay scrambles to find funding for jetty repairs

  • The Army Corps six years ago made temporary repairs to Coos Bay's North Jetty. Officials say if more repairs aren't completed, the jetty is in danger of a complete breach.
  • COOS BAY, Ore. (AP) — There are days when Capt. Charlie Yates, a Coos Bay bar pilot, just stays home. “You can hit the bottom at Coos Bay if you're fully loaded. You have to know when to stay and when to go,” he said.

    Waves hammer the North Jetty. Massive rocks can shift. Heavy swells cross into the channel instead of being blocked.
