WIMER, Ore. (AP) — Exactly five years after it collapsed into a creek, injuring three people, a new and hopefully improved Wimer Covered Bridge was dedicated in this small, southern Oregon community.
Originally built in 1892, the span was replaced in 1927. That one collapsed July 6, 2003. Investigators determined the bridge failed because of rotting timbers and from vehicles crossing the span that exceeded the 6-ton limit.
