Part of old Oregon bridge collapses

PORTLAND (AP) — A heavy equipment operator escaped injury when a portion of a bridge collapsed as it was being demolished.

The track hoe operator was able to walk away Friday after a concrete span fell 25 feet to the ground during work on the old bridge to Sauvie Island, which lies between the Columbia River and the Multnomah Channel north of Portland.
