Agencies attempt to flood-proof the valley

Nearly 100 offenders from Pierce County District Court stacked 15,000 sandbags on 285 pallets for the city of Pacific. The operation took about five days.

While local attention may have shifted to the frigid weather, public agencies in the Kent Valley have been buttoning up their flood-mitigation plans in case the Army Corps of Engineers has to release water from behind the weakened Howard Hanson Dam.
