Two Northwest safety initiatives were recognized at the American Road & Transportation Builders Association Transportation Development Foundation's 12th annual Roadway Work Zone Safety Awareness Awards in Pittsburgh. CH2M Hill won an award for its Work Zone Safety Matters campaign to reduce job site accidents, injuries and fatalities. The campaign included a toolkit for employees nationwide and hosted the American Traffic Safety Services National Work Zone Memorial with the Washington State Department of Transportation. The Idaho Department of Transportation, Connecting Idaho Partners JV and The Langdon Group won an award for their efforts to notify travelers at the Boise Airport of ongoing construction activity on nearby Interstate 84. The partners created an information kiosk near the baggage claim area that had computer-animated simulations of the construction projects and how motorists should drive through the work zones.
