Kent company wins $1.4 million viaduct contract

SEATTLE — Signal Electric yesterday was awarded a $1.4 million contract to install a system that will close the Alaskan Way Viaduct within two minutes of an earthquake.

The new system will consist of nine traffic gates controlled by a series of underground seismic monitoring devices.
