Mayor Mike McGinn says a new city of Seattle program designed to increase opportunities for women and minority businesses on large construction projects has had good results so far.
In July, the city rejected all six bids for building a new Rainier Beach Community Center after most of the bidders did not submit plans for hiring women- and minority-owned subcontractors, or WMBEs.
