SEATTLE — After working for months in the Duwamish River on the foundation for the new South Park Bridge, joint-venture contractor Kiewit-Massman is starting a more visible phase — construction of bridge approaches, supports, girders, decking and rails.
More than 50 workers are still excavating material for the new piers. By next spring, the piers will have reached a depth of 70 to 100 feet below the riverbed.
