Speakers at a recent AIA forum on integrated project delivery said the innovative way of delivering projects is the way of the future. But to be successful, more effort must be spent selecting the right team members and planning out the development process.
IPD requires teams work together in new ways with the goal of saving time and money, and increasing sustainability. Often, the owner, architect and contractor sign a tri-party agreement. The agreement is a single contract binding them together, establishing a contingency budget. If the contingency is not used, team members split the extra money. If extra money is needed, team members pay — up to a point. Team members waive their rights to sue during project development.
