Nooksack Bridge takes top national honor

The Nooksack River Bridge, shown under construction next to the old bridge, carries two lanes of one-way traffic. The old bridge was converted to two lanes of one-way traffic running in the opposite direction.

The Nooksack River Bridge in Whatcom County won a national award last month at the 2012 Prize Bridge Competition in Dallas. Eighteen steel bridges earned recognition; the Nooksack was the only one from the Pacific Northwest, taking top honors in the Long Span category.
