SEATTLE — Major tunneling for Sound Transit's $1.9 billion University Link light rail extension is mostly done now that the tunnel-boring machine Brenda has reached downtown Seattle.
Brenda's arrival means twin tunnels run the length of the 3.1-mile extension from downtown to the University of Washington. One construction team built tunnels from the UW to Capitol Hill. A second team built the segment from Capitol Hill to Westlake in downtown.
