ANCHORAGE, Alaska (AP) — A scenic trail north of Anchorage will be repaired after an excavator was used to churn up a wide swath of land on the trail's first few miles as part of a state parks department project.
The South Fork Valley Trail in Eagle River is popular with hikers and berry pickers looking for easy access to the Chugach State Park. But trail users got an ugly surprise last summer when they discovered the damage done by the excavator to realign the trail and reduce erosion.
