SITKA, Alaska — The city and borough of Sitka is planning to raise the height of Blue Lake Dam by 83 feet and build a new powerhouse. Construction bids, estimated at $45 million to $50 million, are due July 17.
The new powerhouse will have more capacity than the existing one. Related work includes construction of a new intake structure and tunnel, modifications to the existing tunnel, a new underground surge chamber, new penstock section, and modifications to the switchyard.
