Paul G. Allen Center for Global Animal Health

The Paul G. Allen Center for Global Animal Health is a biomedical research center on the Pullman campus of Washington State University.

The 62,000-square-foot building was finished in May. It was designed and constructed to meet LEED standards to minimize energy and water use.

The center houses more than 100 research scientists and graduate students, with research and diagnostic laboratories, office space and meeting rooms. An infectious disease research facility has been equipped to investigate emerging diseases.

The lobby has information to educate the public about the center’s mission. Glass walls in the research wing provide natural light for laboratories and allow visitors to see the work inside.

Three conference rooms provide spaces for learning on-site and connecting across the globe. Open spaces encourage interaction among the students, faculty and staff.

Funding for the $44 million project came from two of the largest private commitments in WSU history from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and Paul G. Allen. A $25 million grant, coupled with the matching funds supplied by Paul G. Allen, allowed for construction of the center to focus on new discoveries in animal health.

The building is expected to achieve LEED gold certification.
