The Paul G. Allen Center for Global Animal Health at Washington State University won the DJC's second annual Building of the Year contest.

More than 35,000 votes were cast in a tight race that turned into the Apple Cup of the building world, with WSU's project getting 39 percent of the vote and University of Washington's Husky Union Building getting 36 percent. The tide turned for the WSU project after WSU News Center ran an article encouraging alumni, students and faculty to vote for Allen Center.

In third place, with 13 percent of the votes, was UW's Molecular Engineering and Sciences Building.

The Allen Center project team was led by ZGF Architects and Bouten Construction Co.

Go to here for a complete list of the winners and to see comments submitted by voters. All articles at djc.com will be unlocked today so that everyone can read about the projects.

A drawing for the Kindle Fire HD will be held today and the winner's name will be announced.
