SEATTLE — Crews in Japan last week began disassembling Bertha, the world's largest-diameter tunneling machine, for its voyage to Seattle.
The $80 million machine will be loaded in 41 pieces aboard the 473-foot Jumbo Fairpartner, which is estimated to depart March 15-19 and arrive here by month's end, depending on the weather.
