Some lawyers embrace ‘plain English' initiative

    In 1998, the SEC required that corporate filings be written in “plain English,” that all prospectuses must be written in “a clear concise and understandable fashion.” Companies could not pack their filings with legal and technical business jargon; the filings had to make sense to someone who is not an expert in the area.
