Bertha's launch bed is ready

The perimeter of the pit is 80 feet wide and 400 feet long.

Seattle Tunnel Partners has finished building the 80-foot-deep launch pit for Bertha, the giant machine that will dig the nearly 2-mile-long tunnel to replace the Alaskan Way Viaduct on the Seattle waterfront.
