Seattle Fire Department has finished seismic and safety upgrades at Fire Station 34 at 633 32nd Ave. E. in Madison Park.

The 1970 station needed seismic retrofits for the walls and roof. The $1.8 million project also included an interior renovation.

The kitchen area — or beanery — was remodeled, a new day room and laundry were added, and the basement was renovated to add storage.

A two-story addition houses a fitness room, decontamination room, bunker gear storage, apparatus bay storage and a battery charging station.

The roof is new and new copper piping was installed throughout. A new sprinkler system and mechanical upgrades were added, along with new light fixtures, an emergency generator, ADA upgrades and landscaping.

The project was designed by ARC Architects of Seattle and built by Western Ventures Construction of Mountlake Terrace. Work began in 2011 and finished in October.

The station is one of 32 being upgraded, renovated or replaced.
