More inspection shafts drilled for Bertha

Malcolm Drilling is drilling 5-foot-diameter shafts in front of Bertha to probe for additional blockages.

Crews have begun drilling 5-foot-diameter shafts in front of Bertha, the tunnel boring machine digging the SR 99 replacement tunnel for the Alaskan Way Viaduct. The shafts are being installed where earlier probing detected metal in front of the machine.
