Brierley to design Bertha's rescue shaft

Denver-based Brierley Associates has been selected to design the rescue shaft that will be used to access the broken machine digging the tunnel along the Seattle waterfront.

Brierley representatives came to Seattle last month to advise Seattle Tunnel Partners on repair options. Now, the firm will design the shaft, according to Matt Preedy, deputy administrator for the Alaskan Way Viaduct replacement program.
