ANCHORAGE, Alaska (AP) — The federal Office of Surface Mining, Reclamation and Enforcement has criticized a state agency's handling of permit extensions and renewals for the Wishbone Hill coal project near Palmer.
While the office upheld a decision by the state in October to renew project permits for the operator, Usibelli Coal, an official with the federal agency, Robert Postle, said the state erred in never officially terminating the permits due to inaction by an earlier owner.
