Digging the rescue pit to reach the broken tunnel machine called Bertha has stopped again, but this time it is not because of ground settlement.
Seattle Tunnel Partners stopped excavation last Friday so that crews can remove five 3-foot-diameter piles from inside the pit. Excavation is expected to resume in two weeks.
