Last big lift for rail guideway near Angle Lake

SEATTLE — PCL Civil Constructors on Monday hoisted the final 35-ton concrete segment for the elevated guideway that will support light rail tracks between Sea-Tac Airport and Angle Lake Station at South 200th Street.

To finish the 1.6-mile guideway, PCL will set rails, erect the overhead catenary system to power the trains, and install communications systems. Crews are also building the elevated station and 1,050-stall parking garage.

The guideway is part of the $383 million South 200th Link extension.

Sound Transit said the project is currently $20 million under budget. The new line is expected to open in fall 2016.

The ride from Angle Lake should take 37 minutes to downtown Seattle and 43 minutes to Husky Stadium.

The last 35-ton concrete segment (that’s #1,166) was lifted in place this morning.Next up: workers will install the curbs and rails on the guideway. Construction of the 1,050-stall parking garage and elevated station continue, keeping us on track to open light rail service to Angle Lake Station next year.
