Sound Transit released a new proposed timeline for the next phase of light rail that shaves a few years off the initial estimates of when new lines will open.
Here is the updated timeline for when light rail would reach the following destinations:
Downtown Redmond: 2024, four years sooner than originally expected
Federal Way: 2024, four years sooner
West Seattle: 2030, three years sooner
Graham Street and Boeing Access Road infill stations: 2031, five years sooner
Tacoma: 2030, three years sooner
Ballard: 2035, three years sooner
Everett: 2036, five years sooner
Tacoma to Tacoma Community College: 2039, two years sooner
Sound Transit said it will add a new station at Northeast 130th Street to the line that will eventually go to Everett. That station is expected to be completed in 2031.
Sound Transit extended to the north a proposed line between Bellevue and Issaquah to include a stop at South Kirkland park and ride.
The Ballard route would be grade separated at 15th Avenue West. The original plan called for trains to travel at-grade.
The Sound Transit board will vote on the proposed changes June 2. A final vote is set for June 23 on Sound Transit 3, which will be sent to voters in November.
