Navajo tribe moves ahead with plan for controversial Grand Canyon tram

  • The proposal includes an aerial tram at the east rim as well as a riverside boardwalk, hotels, cultural center and retail space for Navajo artisans.
  • PHOENIX (AP) — Navajo Nation lawmakers are set to consider a highly disputed plan to develop tourist attractions at the edge of the Grand Canyon.

    A Navajo Council member this week introduced legislation to approve the Grand Canyon Escalade project, the Arizona Republic reported. The legislation also proposes $65 million in tribal development funds for roads and other needed improvements.
