Park-and-ride to close in Redmond

REDMOND — Sound Transit on May 1 will close the 222-stall park-and-ride lot at Overlake Transit Center in Redmond so that crews can build a 320-stall parking garage in its place.

The rest of the transit center will remain open during construction.

The north end of the site will serve as a construction hub for both the garage and the future Redmond Technology Center Station that will replace Overlake Transit Center.

The work is part of the $225 million East Link E360 design-build contract that was awarded last year to Kiewit-Hoffman East Link Constructors. Included are 1.8 miles of double-tracked guideway, two at-grade transit stations, two pedestrian bridges over state Route 520 and other work.

While construction of the Redmond light rail station will continue until 2023, Sound Transit expects the garage to open earlier.
