SEATTLE — One casualty of the $700 million KeyArena renovation will be the Seattle Center Skatepark.
The 10,000-square-foot park is located just south of the arena at Second Avenue North and Thomas Street, where a new entrance plaza is planned.
Fortunately for skaters, the city is looking to rebuild the skate park a few blocks away on a former strip of Broad Street at Fifth Avenue North and Thomas Street.
The 18,000-square-foot site would have overhead weather protection and at least 10,000 square feet of skateable area.
The budget hasn't been set, but the arena developer, Oak View Group, has agreed to contribute $500,000.
A feasibility study by Grindline Skateparks estimates the new park could cost $2.1 million.
The city is seeking proposals for design, engineering and stakeholder engagement services for the park. Proposals are due by 4 p.m. Oct. 26. Site walk-throughs are scheduled for Oct. 9 and Oct. 10.
