The Washington State Supreme Court recently dealt a serious blow to contractors in their ongoing battle with owners concerning payment for extra work.

In Mike M. Johnson v. County of Spokane, a five-member majority of the Court allowed a public owner to receive extra work without paying the contractor any compensation for that work because the contractor failed to follow technical, and at times impossible, claim and notice procedures.
