Construction waste flows, despite recycling

  • According to state Department of Ecology estimates, only a third of construction and demolition debris gets recycled.

    THIS WEEK, the state Department of Ecology reported that recycling rates in Washington rose from 42 percent to 44 percent last year, but the amount of garbage sent to landfills kept increasing as Washingtonians generated more and more waste.


    Asphalt recycling workshop
    A national workshop on materials and energy conservation for hot-mix asphalt will be held Nov. 1-2 in Indianapolis, sponsored by the National Asphalt Pavement Association, the Federal Highway Administration and AASHTO. The sessions will cover hot-mix recycling practices and ways to conserve energy during asphalt production. Registration is $225.
