Maryhill tucks new wing into basalt cliff

    The addition is terraced into the hillside and connects to the main building through a gallery on the plaza level.

    When building a 25,500-square-foot addition to the Maryhill Museum of Art near Goldendale, contractors didn't face the usual urban challenges: a tight site, nearby electrical lines or traffic safety issues. But, in the city it's not common to install a sprinkler system 50 feet from the building to protect the surrounding area from possible brush fires.
