A $44 million disaster-response complex opened by the city of Seattle in May houses Fire Station 10, the Fire Alarm Center and the Emergency Operations Center. The building is at 105 Fifth Ave. S.
The 60,000-square-foot complex was designed to allow the city to better coordinate its response to major emergencies and to communicate with regional, state and federal authorities.
The center will also be the key source for public information during an emergency. It has a 3,500-square-foot main operations room with breakout rooms and executive policy rooms surrounding it.
Other features of the building, which was designed to achieve a LEED silver certification, include a 15,000-square-foot green roof and a 12,000-gallon underground cistern for harvesting rainwater and recapturing water from fire drills.
