Snowy Owl Theatre will open this spring at Icicle Creek Center for the Arts, 7409 Icicle Road, in Leavenworth.
The 240-seat theater will provide space for performances, education and special events at Icicle Creek, an educational and arts center.
The 11,300-square-foot building resembles a rustic Northwest barn. It is designed for versatility so the stage can be reconfigured to accommodate a musical performance or live theater. Most of the seating is retractable for conversion to a flat floor for non-theater events.
The building also has side stages, dressing rooms, a backstage area and balcony seating. It uses the latest in theater lighting and technology, such as an on-demand LED-color spotlight, programmable touch-screen controls and a flown concert shell.
The project is designed to meet LEED silver certification. It uses lighting and temperate efficiencies, water conservation methods and a highly efficient mechanical system. The lobby is made of wood reclaimed from a World War II-era Boeing factory.
Funding came from donations, including the largest donation from Harriet Bullitt, who developed the nearby Sleeping Lady Mountain Resort in the 1990s.
