Louisiana Pacific Inner-Seal exterior siding is made to look like solid wood so it can be difficult to tell it apart from other kinds of siding. It is sold in two ways: as lap siding in 16-foot long boards with a textured surface and as panel siding both with and without grooves. The panels come with either a textured or smooth surface.
The grain pattern is embossed with a metal plate which has a distinctive two-inch knot on it. If you find the knot that's a good indication you have Inner Seal. Tap the siding to be sure it sounds and feels like wood or ask your builder.
Inner Seal was first introduced in 1985 so siding installed before than cannot be Inner Seal.
