The measure earmarks $4.7 million for the 1917 bridge which the city says is the most frequently operated bridge in the world. That amount could be used to leverage an additional $7 million from state, federal and local sources.
Cyndi Lewis, spokeswoman for the Citizens for Seattle Streets campaign, said the Fremont Bridge approaches -- everything but the drawspan itself -- require extensive seismic upgrades and reinforcement.
