Financing for football stadium upheld by court

OLYMPIA (AP) -- The state Supreme Court last Thursday upheld public financing to build a new Seattle Seahawks stadium over the acid objections of a lone dissenter, who said even school children would have concluded otherwise.

In an 8-1 decision, the court rejected a challenge to Referendum 48, which provided $300 million of the financing for the $425 million stadium to be built where the Kingdome now stands. Voters passed the measure in a special election in June 1997.
