Demolition crews at the Kingdome are spreading a 5- to 7-foot bed of concrete rubble over the old field surface to help reduce the impact when the 25,000-ton roof is imploded in late March.

The rubble bed is being made from concrete debris from the Dome's lower bleacher sections and its interior and exterior ramps. Contractors working on the job include Aman Environmental Construction of Covina, Calif., Controlled Demolition of Phoenix, Md., and TLH Abatement of Seattle.

The $9 million demolition job will make way for the new $430 million football/soccer stadium.
