SEATTLE — The city’s Transportation Department has awarded an emergency contract to Guy F. Atkinson Co. to repair earthquake damage to the Magnolia Bridge. Atkinson’s contract is for $1.75 million.
The bulk of Atkinson’s work includes replacing existing concrete cross braces with permanent steel bracing. Temporary bracing will be installed first so that the cross braces can be removed. Other work includes concrete spall and crack repairs.
A spokesman for Atkinson said construction will likely begin next week and be completed within the contract’s 115-day work period.
Atkinson also is doing unrelated seismic retrofit work on the bridge as part of its $8.6 million West Galer Street flyover contract with the city.
