Northwest a world leader in clean energy

SEATTLE -- Confirming what many in the region already know, a new report says that the Pacific Northwest is leading the nation, and the world, in green energy innovation and use.

"This year's wildly fluctuating energy prices and the West Coast drought that restricted hydropower production underscore the vulnerability of our energy supplies," said report author Patrick Mazza. "With our wind power boom and innovative efforts to put solar generators on the ground, we are emerging as a national green power leader."

The report, issued by conservation groups Climate Solutions and the Renewable Northwest Project, also documents the efforts of companies and utilities to use clean energy and reduce greenhouse emissions, including case studies of Seattle City Light, clean energy electronic controls manufacturer Xantrex of Arlington and Batdorf and Bronson of Olympia, America's first 100 percent green-powered coffee roaster.

The full report is available online at climatesolutions.org.
